Interesting facts about Chitty:
* has rare 8v conversion (from 6v). This conversion was popular in the 1950's and 1960's before the advent of 12v systems. It works great!
* named "Chitty" by my daughter because of the sound that he makes
* once featured in "Vintage Voice" Volkswagen magazine
* is an illegally imported european model with FACTORY disc front brakes, six volt electrics, "old" style fenders, "new" style four-lug wheels. All original.
* has 210,000 miles and is only on his 2nd engine (short-block)
*is part of my experiment to see how long a car will last if a person fixes stuff everytime it breaks and drives it easily
*Chitty gets between 31 and 45 mpg (depending upon driving style, city vs. hwy, wind, etc.),
*top practical "safe" speed is 70 mph (but if you are brave/crazy it would probably go about 100 mph)
*many people who drive big expensive SUV's feel threatened by Chitty (guilt?)
